PUBLICATION ETHICS AND MALPRACTICE STATEMENT

Jurnal Masharif Al-Syariah: Jurnal Ekonomi dan Perbankan Syariah

Jurnal Masharif Al-Syariah: Jurnal Ekonomi dan Perbankan Syariah is a peer-reviewed journal dedicated to publishing high-quality research in Islamic economics, sharia finance, and Islamic banking. Maintaining ethical standards in scientific publishing is essential to ensuring the quality and credibility of published work.

This Publication Ethics statement outlines the code of conduct for all parties involved in the publishing process—including Authors, Editors, Peer Reviewers, and Publishers—and is based on the guidelines and Code of Conduct established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

1. Ethical Duties of Authors

  • Originality and Avoidance of Plagiarism: Authors must submit entirely original works. Any ideas, data, or texts taken from other sources must be properly cited and referenced. Plagiarism in all its forms—including self-plagiarism, text recycling, and verbatim copying—is strictly prohibited.

  • Data Access and Retention: Authors may be requested to provide raw data in connection with a paper for editorial review. Authors must retain such data for a reasonable time after publication.

  • Multiple or Concurrent Submissions: Authors must not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal simultaneously. Submitting a manuscript that is currently under evaluation elsewhere constitutes unethical publishing behavior.

  • Authorship Criteria: Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made a significant contribution to the conception, design, execution, data collection, or interpretation of the study. All co-authors must approve the final manuscript before submission.

  • Acknowledgement of Sources: Authors must properly acknowledge all funding sources, research grants, and institutional support.

  • Disclosure of Conflicts of Interest: Authors must declare any financial, institutional, or personal conflicts of interest that could influence the results or interpretation of their manuscript.

  • Fundamental Errors in Published Works: If an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in their published work, they must promptly notify the journal Editor and cooperate to publish an Erratum or Retraction.

2. Ethical Duties of Editors

  • Publication Decisions and Objectivity: The Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Board evaluate manuscripts based strictly on their scientific merit, originality, clarity, Fiqh Muamalah compliance, and relevance to the journal’s scope, without regard to author race, gender, nationality, or institutional affiliation.

  • Confidentiality: Editors and editorial staff must maintain strict confidentiality regarding submitted manuscripts. Information about a submission will not be disclosed to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, and publisher.

  • Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest: Editors will not use unpublished material disclosed in a submitted manuscript for their own research without the express written consent of the authors. Editors must recuse themselves from evaluating manuscripts where a conflict of interest exists.

  • Involvement in Misconduct Investigations: Editors, guided by COPE flowcharts, will take prompt action when ethical concerns or allegations of misconduct arise regarding a submitted or published paper.

3. Ethical Duties of Peer Reviewers

  • Contribution to Editorial Decisions: Peer reviewers assist editors in making editorial decisions and help authors improve their manuscripts through objective, constructive evaluation.

  • Promptness and Recusal: Any selected reviewer who feels unqualified to evaluate a manuscript or knows that a prompt review will be impossible must notify the editor immediately and decline the review invitation.

  • Confidentiality: Manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents. They must not be shown to or discussed with others without authorization from the Editor-in-Chief.

  • Standards of Objectivity: Reviews must be conducted objectively, constructively, and without personal criticism. Reviewers must express their views clearly with supporting evidence and arguments.

  • Disclosure and Conflict of Interest: Reviewers must decline evaluation of manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships with any of the authors or institutions connected to the paper.

4. Ethical Duties of the Publisher

  • Journal Governance: Universitas Muhammadiyah Surabaya, in collaboration with Asosiasi Program Studi Keuangan dan Perbankan Syariah (APSKPS), is committed to supporting the editorial independence of Jurnal Masharif Al-Syariah.

  • Protection of Scholarly Record: The publisher works alongside editors to prevent publication misconduct, ensure digital archiving, and issue formal corrections, errata, or retractions whenever necessary.
