Qanun Medika - Medical Journal Faculty of Medicine Muhammadiyah Surabaya recognizes that scientific communication continues after publication. The journal encourages responsible post-publication discussion to improve understanding, clarify research findings, and maintain the accuracy and integrity of the scholarly record.
Qanun Medika follows the principles recommended by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Core Practices, which emphasize transparent mechanisms for addressing concerns, correcting errors, and maintaining the reliability of published research.
Readers, researchers, and authors may submit scientific comments, questions, or concerns regarding articles published in Qanun Medika. All communications must be evidence-based, respectful, relevant to the published article, and focused on scientific or ethical issues. Where appropriate, the authors of the original article may be invited to provide a response.
1. Post-Publication Corrections
Qanun Medika may publish corrections when errors are identified after publication and correction is necessary to maintain the accuracy of the scientific record. Depending on the nature of the issue, the journal may issue an erratum for errors introduced during the journal's production process, a corrigendum for errors originating from the authors, or an addendum to provide additional information that improves understanding of the published article without changing its original findings.
Correction and addendum notices will identify the affected article and explain the relevant changes or additional information. Where applicable, these notices will be permanently linked to the original article to ensure transparency and preserve the publication history, consistent with the principles outlined in the COPE Core Practices.
2. Expression of Concern and Retraction
Qanun Medika may issue an Expression of Concern when serious questions arise regarding the reliability or integrity of a published article but an investigation remains incomplete or further evidence is required before a final decision can be made.
An article may be retracted when clear and reliable evidence indicates that its findings are unreliable or that serious ethical violations have occurred, including plagiarism, data fabrication, data falsification, duplicate publication, or other major forms of research or publication misconduct.
Retraction notices will clearly identify the original article, explain the reasons for retraction, and remain permanently linked to the published record. Qanun Medika refers to the COPE Retraction Guidelines when considering retraction and related editorial actions.
3. Editorial Assessment and Author Responses
Post-publication comments and concerns will be assessed by the editorial team according to their relevance, supporting evidence, scientific value, and potential implications for research integrity. The journal may request additional information or seek independent expert advice when necessary.
When a comment raises substantive questions about a published article, the original authors may be invited to respond. The comment and response may be assessed by the editor or subjected to peer review where appropriate. If the authors decline to respond or fail to respond within the period specified by the journal, Qanun Medika may proceed with its assessment and consider publishing the critique with an explanatory note, where appropriate, following the COPE Flowchart on Handling Post-publication Critiques.
4. Transparency of the Scholarly Record
Qanun Medika aims to maintain the integrity and transparency of the scholarly record by retaining the original published article and linking relevant correction, addendum, Expression of Concern, or retraction notices to the affected publication. The publication history should remain accessible so that readers can understand the status of the article and any subsequent editorial action.
All post-publication actions will be handled fairly, consistently, and on the basis of available evidence to protect research integrity and public trust in scholarly communication, in accordance with the COPE Core Practices and the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing.
