Abstrak

Background: The incidence of anemia among prospective brides and grooms in Indonesia is quite high. Data shows that approximately 17.8% of prospective brides and grooms suffer from anemia. Furthermore, approximately 18% of prospective brides and grooms also experience chronic malnutrition. Overall, approximately 50.5% of prospective brides and grooms have health problems before marriage, including anemia.


Objective: The purpose of this study was to identify the hemoglobin levels of prospective brides and grooms before and after being given tomato juice.


Methods: This study was a pre-experimental study with a One Group Pretest-Posttest design. The population was all prospective brides and grooms at the Sukorame Community Health Center, Mojoroto District, Kediri City, in 2024. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling with a sample size of 20 respondents. The statistical test used was the Paired T-Test because the data were normally distributed.


Results: The respondents' hemoglobin levels before being given tomato juice were a minimum of 11.22 g/dl, and the respondents' hemoglobin levels after being given tomato juice were a mean of 11.97 g/dl, with a difference of 0.75 g/dl. The statistical test results showed a p-value of 0.001, which is less than 0.05. Therefore, H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted, indicating that tomato juice has an effect on increasing the blood sugar levels of prospective brides.

Conclusion: Tomato juice can be used as an alternative or supplement to help treat anemia in prospective brides.
