Objective: Tuberculosis is a contagious disease with a high incidence in the community. Tuberculosis can be transmitted through airborne droplets containing tuberculosis bacilli when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or speaks. Tuberculosis transmission can be prevented by involving families in health care. The purpose of this study was to explore families' experiences in preventing the transmission of pulmonary tuberculosis within families at the Kalijudan Community Health Center in Surabaya.
Methods: A descriptive phenomenological approach was used to collect. The participants were 10 families with Pulmonary Tuberculosis at the Kalijudan Community Health Center in Surabaya, who were selected by purposive sampling. Data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews based on semi-structured interview guidelines. The data analysis model used was interactive Miles, reduction, data display, analysis, conclusions, and data verification.
Result: The research obtained five themes: family knowledge in recognizing family health problems, making treatment decisions, behavior in caring for family members, environmental modification, and utilization of health facilities.
Conclusion: The family's ability to carry out health functions is essential in preventing the transmission of pulmonary tuberculosis within the family.
