Abstract

Background: Family support is one of the external factors that may influence students' learning motivation. However, for nursing students living separately from their parents, the role of family support may differ due to limited direct interaction.

Objective: To determine the relationship between family support and learning motivation among nursing students at STIKes Maharani Malang who live separately from their parents.

Methods: This study employed a quantitative research design with a cross-sectional approach. The study population consisted of 63 nursing students from semesters 2, 6, and 8, selected using a total sampling technique. Data were collected using questionnaires on family support and learning motivation. Data were analyzed using the Spearman Rank correlation test with SPSS for Windows version 31 at a significance level of p > 0.05.

Results: The results showed that most respondents had high family support (76%) and moderate learning motivation (97%). The Spearman Rank test revealed a p-value of 0.231 (p > 0.05) and a correlation coefficient of -0.153, indicating no significant relationship between family support and learning motivation. The correlation was negative and very weak.

Conclusion: There was no significant relationship between family support and learning motivation among nursing students living separately from their parents.
