Labor pain can be reduced in several ways, both pharmacologically and non-pharmacologically. The non-pharmacological method can be done by firm counter pressure and deep back massage, i.e one of the pain relief massage techniques. The results of a survey found the high incidence of severe pain in labor women during the first active phase at Aura Syifa Hospital Kediri. This study aims to analyze the difference in the effectiveness of Firm Counter Pressure and Deep Back Massage Techniques to Overcome Pain in Labor Women during the First Active Phase.
This study used quantitative, analytical comparative with pretest-posttest design (pre-experimental design). The population was all labor women during the first active phase and total of 32 respondents using an accidental sampling technique. Data analysis was done using paired T-test and independent T-test.
The results showed that 16 respondents (100%) had mild pain after firm counter pressure and 11 respondents (75%) had mild pain after deep back massage. Paired T-test results showed Ï value for firm counter-pressure of 0.000 and for deep back massage of 0.000, which means Ï value < 0.05, so it can be concluded that there is a difference between before and after the treatment. T-independent test results showed a Ï value of 0.014 and 0.020, which means Ï value < 0.05, so it can be concluded that there is a difference in the effectiveness of both treatments.
Based on the results, a deep back massage technique is more effective than firm counter pressure. Further research is expected to use the technique in reducing the pain intensity of labor women during the first active phase.References
