Gambaran Early Warning Score (EWS) pada Pasien Instalasi Gawat Darurat (IGD)

Background: Early Warning Score (EWS) is an assessment system used to detect early deterioration in patient conditions based on physiological parameters. Its implementation in the Emergency Department is important to help healthcare professionals identify patients’ clinical conditions quickly and accurately.
Objective: To describe the Early Warning Score (EWS) among patients in the Emergency Department.
Methods: This study used a descriptive design with an observational approach. A total of 150 patients in the Emergency Department were selected using accidental sampling. Data were collected through direct observation using the EWS observation form. The observed indicators included respiratory rate, oxygen saturation, use of respiratory support devices, blood pressure, pulse rate, level of consciousness, and body temperature.
Results: The results showed that 15.2% of patients were classified as normal, 35.7% as low risk, 22.2% as moderate risk, and 14.6% as high risk based on EWS categories. High EWS scores were predominantly found in elderly patients and patients diagnosed with dyspnea, and the musculokeletal system. Abnormal respiratory rates were mostly observed in older patients (>60 years), with female patients showing a higher prevalence.
Conclusion: Most patients in the Emergency Department were categorized as low risk based on EWS. However, patients with high EWS scores were at risk of developing critical conditions, especially elderly patients with respiratory disorders. Consistent application of EWS is necessary for early detection of patient deterioration and to reduce the risk of critical conditions.
