High-risk pregnancy conditions can lead to stress during pregnancy and childbirth. Maternal stress is often associated with limited knowledge, the necessity of taking medication regularly, and fears of maternal mortality post-delivery. This study aimed to determine the effect of prenatal counseling using the GATHER approach on the knowledge and stress levels of high-risk pregnant women. This quasi-experimental study employed a control group design, with a total of 40 respondents selected through consecutive sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires and analyzed using the Wilcoxon and paired t-tests. Prior to the intervention, 80% of women in the intervention group experienced moderate stress, while 75% in the control group experienced mild stress. Regarding knowledge, 80% in the intervention group and 85% in the control group had low knowledge levels. After the intervention, 55% of the intervention group reported mild stress, compared to 60% in the control group. Additionally, 80% of the intervention group had good knowledge, while 80% of the control group had sufficient knowledge. The statistical tests showed a significant difference before and after prenatal counseling using the GATHER method in both the intervention and control groups (p = 0.000; p < 0.05). These findings indicate that the GATHER-based prenatal counseling method can serve as a guideline for counseling high-risk pregnant women.
