Abstract

ABSTRACT

The discovery of basophils as antigen presenting cells in animals tries to raise a big question about the same role in humans. In order to solve the problem, the references had been searched through the US National Library of Medicine, National Institute of Health with the web site address http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed. The search had been done in May 2018 with key words: basophil, antigen presenting cell. Author used filter: publication less than 10 years and free full text article. Author found nine (9) articles that meet the criteria. Discussion from the existing article indicates that basophile cells are incapable of endocytosis of solid particles, unable to process and present antigens through MHC molecules, and basophils cells do not express the accessory molecules either before or after activated. It can be concluded that basophil has no role as antigen-presenting cells in humans.

ABSTRAK 

Penemuan peran basofil sebagai sel penyaji antigen pada hewan coba menimbulkan pertanyaan besar mengenai peran yang sama pada manusia. Untuk menjawab permasalahan tersebut dilakukan penelusuran artikel melalui US    National    Library    of  Medicine,  National  Institute  of  Health dengan alamat web site  http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed. Pencarian sumber pustaka dilakukan pada bulan mei 2018 dengan   kata   kunci   Basophil, antigen presenting cell dengan filter publikasi yang berusia kurang dari 10 tahun dan merupakan free  full  text  article. Hasil pencarian ditemukan 9 artikel yang memenuhi kriteria. Pembahasan dari artikel yang ada menunjukkan bahwa sel basofil tidak mampu melakukan endositosis partikel padat, tidak mampu memproses dan menyajikan antigen melalui molekul MHC, dan sel basofil tidak mengekspresikan molekul asesori baik sebelum maupun setelah diaktifkan. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa basofil tidak mempunyai peran sebagai sel penyaji antigen pada manusia.
