Abstrak

ABSTRAK


Penelitian ini bertujuan mengeksplorasi fungsi bahasa dalam ritual adat suku Osing. Studi ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode etnografi komunikasi serta teknik observasi partisipan dan wawancara mendalam terhadap 20 anak dan tokoh adat. Data dikumpulkan melalui rekaman audiovisual interaksi anak selama ritual adat, catatan lapangan, dan wawancara. Analisis data dilakukan menggunakan kerangka teori pragmatik Searle (1969). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan anak-anak mampu mengidentifikasi dan menginterpretasikan berbagai fungsi bahasa dalam ritual adat, seperti fungsi deklaratif, ekspresif, dan direktif. Temuan lain mengungkapkan adanya proses scaffolding oleh orang dewasa dalam memfasilitasi pemahaman anak terhadap aspek pragmatik bahasa ritual. Penelitian ini berkontribusi pada pemahaman mendalam tentang peran ritual adat dalam perkembangan pragmatik anak usia dini dan menyoroti pentingnya pelestarian kearifan lokal sebagai sumber belajar bahasa yang kaya. Implikasi praktis dari penelitian ini mencakup rekomendasi untuk mengintegrasikan elemen ritual adat dalam kurikulum pendidikan anak usia dini untuk mendukung perkembangan kompetensi pragmatik mereka.

ABSTRACT


This study aims to explore the function of language in the traditional rituals of the Osing tribe. This study used a qualitative approach with ethnographic communication methods, participant observation techniques, and in-depth interviews with 20 children and traditional leaders. Data were collected through audiovisual recordings of children's interactions during traditional rituals, field notes, and interviews. Data analysis was conducted using Searle's (1969) pragmatic theory framework. The results showed that children were able to identify and interpret various language functions in traditional rituals, such as declarative, expressive, and directive functions. Other findings revealed a scaffolding process by adults in facilitating children's understanding of the pragmatic aspects of ritual language. This study contributes to an in-depth understanding of the role of traditional rituals in the pragmatic development of early childhood and highlights the importance of preserving local wisdom as a rich source of language learning. Practical implications of this study include recommendations for integrating elements of traditional rituals into early childhood education curricula to support the development of their pragmatic competence.
