Reducing Depression In Elderly By Socialization Group Activities Therapy

Abstrak

Introduction: Increasing life expectancy age certainly made an impact more disturbance or disease in elderly, one of them is depression. The activity group therapy is one of psychological therapy that can increase support from peers to reduce depression in elderly. This research aims to know the influence of Socialization Group Activities Therapy decreasing levels of depression in elderly. Method: The research design was quasy experimental. Sample determined by purposive and random sampling. Both groups performed pretest and post test to determine levels of depression using the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS).  Data were analyzed by  Wilcoxon Signed Rang Test and Wilcoxon Man Whitney. Result: The result of Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test on depression variable showed p value = 0.005 and Wilcoxon Mann-Whitney Test resulted p value = 0.023. It is meaned that Socialization Group Activities Therapy can decreasing the level of depression by elderly residents of the nursing. Conclusion: It can be concluded that there are influence Socialization Group Activities Therapy (TAKS) toward increasing social interaction and decreasing level of depression in elderly residents of nursing.
