Perceptions Of Indonesian Practicing Nurses Towards Updating Capability To Provide Care: A Qualitative Study

Abstrak

Introduction: Capability to provide carecan be recognized as the combination of their knowledge, skills, and attitude of care which can not static attributes. Methods: A descriptive qualitative approach was conducted to explores a deep understanding related with the perception of practicing nurses towards updating capability to provide care. The data for which were gathered from 25 practicing nurses from different areas of practice in one hospital in west Java, Indonesia included 25 in-depth interviews, three focused group discussions (8 persons/group) and participant-observation. Data were analized using qualitative content analysis. Result: There were two themes emerged  are as follows: Theme 1: Internal perceptions of updating capacity to provide care, that had three subthemes: Having great expectation, Being confidence as a professional nurse and Develop Self Initiation. Theme 2: External contexts driving perception of practicing nurses, comprised two subthemes: Giving best care and  Acquiring requirement. Conclusions: The findings found that proper undestanding about updating capacity to provide care will support practicing nurses to provide better nursing services to the patients and meet the regulation of nursing professionalism.  Keywords: Capability to provide care; Updating capability to provide care; Qualitative Research; Practicing nurses
