The effectiveness range of motion (ROM) exercise to the ankle brachial index on patient with diabetic foot ulcer in Indonesia

Abstrak

Introduction: Diabetic foot ulcer is a chronic complication of diabetes mellitus disease resulting in destruction  of skin that can spread to tendon, muscles, bones or joints. Foot ulcer, infection dan peripheral arterial disease lead to gangrene and amputation of the lower extremities. Objective : The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of ROM exercise on the ankle brachial index (ABI) of diabetic foot ulcers in the hospital of Makassar city. Methods: Quasi-experimental design using  pre post test with control group was used in this study. This study recruited 10 respondents one intervention group and 10 respondents two intervention group by non probability consecutive sampling. Results: There is an effect of ROM on ankle brachial index (ABI) of the patient with diabetic ulcer in RS kota Makassar thn 2016.

Conclusion: There is an effect of ROM on ankle brachial index (ABI) of the patient with diabetic ulcer in RS kota Makassar thn 2016.  Recomendation: The researcher suggested that ROM exercises could be applied 3 times a day with the frequency of 10 movement to the diabetic foot ulcers care. Further research need to be done with other types of movement, involving not only the ankle joint, but also other part of joints. In addition the study should be recruite a larger number of samples.
